I-STEAM Pathways: Environmental Research Internships for Indigenous Students
Fostering systemic change through culturally appropriate incorporation of Indigenous knowledge and values in environmental policy and planning.
I-STEAM Pathways is an environmental education and research program at the 黑料不打烊 for Indigenous students enrolled in undergraduate programs in recognized post-secondary institutions. A cross-disciplinary program supported by both the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, I-STEAM Pathways enables First Nations, Métis and Inuit students to gain research experience in a variety of environmental-related fields including science, engineering, climate change and environmental law and policy.
Key objectives of this non-credit, fully paid 16-week internship are:
- to provide a mentored pathway to graduate studies
- to further career development
- to foster an increase in Indigenous policymakers and leaders in environmentally related arenas
- systemic change through appropriate incorporation of Indigenous knowledge, ethics and worldviews in environmental policy and planning.
