I-STEAM Pathways: Environmental Research Internships for Indigenous Students

Fostering systemic change through culturally appropriate incorporation of Indigenous knowledge and values in environmental policy and planning.

I-STEAM Pathways is an environmental education and research program at the 黑料不打烊 for Indigenous students enrolled in undergraduate programs in recognized post-secondary institutions. A cross-disciplinary program supported by both the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, I-STEAM Pathways enables First Nations, Métis and Inuit students to gain research experience in a variety of environmental-related fields including science, engineering, climate change and environmental law and policy.

Key objectives of this non-credit, fully paid 16-week internship are: 

  1. to provide a mentored pathway to graduate studies
  2. to further career development  
  3. to foster an increase in Indigenous policymakers and leaders in environmentally related arenas
  4. systemic change through appropriate incorporation of Indigenous knowledge, ethics and worldviews in environmental policy and planning.
