Guide To Good Relations

As part of the IPIA's continued efforts to build a healthy community and increase the accessibility and safety of our research and teaching spaces, we have developed the IPIA Guide to Good Relations. This document serves as an outline and overview of the principles of our work and the concrete ways we enact those principles.

Initial discussions in February 2023 with the IPIA community of scholars identified a need for values-based guidelines regarding attribution, collaboration, and data standards within our academic space. Following a series of invited speakers and a two-day workshop in 2023 and 2024, the IPIA Guide to Good Relations was collectively developed.

The document is split into four parts; the first two address the foundations of the IPIA, outline our shared values and commitments, and discuss how we engage with each other based on our shared values. The last two address how we do things, step by step, covering topics such as attribution, authorship, data management, administrative protocols, communication, and training.

We are proud to share the public version of the Guide to Good Relations here with our extended community, in the hopes that this encourages the development of similar documents among our colleagues and friends.

Please note that this is a public version of the IPIA’s Guide to Good Relations, therefore some sections have been heavily edited, as the information is not meant for external distribution. Where possible, short summaries of information covered in heavily edited sections are provided to facilitate independent development of similar documentation for other groups using this guide as a template.
