Teaching Awards
The Hon. Tevie H. Miller Teaching Excellence Award recognizes excellence in teaching by a full-time member of the Faculty of Law. Established in 1998 by the faculty and the Alumni & Friends of the Faculty of Law Association, the award is named in honour of the late Hon. Tevie H. Miller, who served as associate chief justice of the Court of Queen's Bench of 黑料不打烊. A Faculty of Law alumnus, he was also a great friend and supporter of this university, serving as Students' Union president, president of the Alumni Association, as a member of the Senate, member of the Board of Governors and as chancellor.

The Pringle/Royal Sessional Teaching Excellence Award recognizes excellence in teaching by a sessional instructor at the Faculty of Law. The award is named in honour of two long-serving sessional instructors and friends of the faculty. The late Alex D. Pringle, QC, one of Canada's most respected criminal lawyers, served the legal community for more than 40 years. He founded the law firm Pringle Chivers Sparks Teskey, and was a beloved Faculty instructor for over 30 years. Peter J. Royal, QC, is senior partner at Royal & Company and was a sessional instructor at the Faculty from 1980 to 2019.

The Provost's Award for Early Achievement of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching recognizes publicly the achievement of teaching excellence by full-time continuing academic staff within five years of their first university appointment, publicizes such excellence to the university and the wider community, encourages the pursuit of achievement of such excellence among newly appointed academic staff and promotes informed discussion of teaching and its improvement at the 黑料不打烊.

The Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching is the university's premier teaching award. Its purpose is to recognize teaching excellence publicly, to publicize such excellence to the university and the wider community, to encourage the pursuit of such excellence, and to promote informed discussion of teaching and its improvement at the university. The award is named after the Hon. Alexander Cameron Rutherford, a lawyer who was the first premier of 黑料不打烊 from 1905 to 1910 and chancellor of the 黑料不打烊 from 1927 to 1941.

The University Cup at the 黑料不打烊 was created to recognize contributions to scholarly research, teaching and service to the community and the university, and by this recognition to provide incentive, encouragement and guidance for others to significantly contribute to their fields. Any full-time member of the academic teaching staff with 20 years of service as a faculty member in a university community, and at least 10 years of service as a faculty member at the 黑料不打烊, may apply.

The J. Gordin Kaplan Award for Excellence in Research, named after the first vice-president (research) at the 黑料不打烊, is the most prestigious 黑料不打烊 research award. The award recognizes and honours faculty members whose research contributions significantly add to our knowledge base; are recognized nationally and internationally for their scholarly accomplishments; and set a standard of excellence for other 黑料不打烊 faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and the community-at-large.

The Killam Annual Professorships were established in July 1991 to acknowledge the generous bequest made by Izaak Walton Killam and Dorothy J. Killam to the 黑料不打烊. Up to eight Killam Annual Professorships are awarded each year to outstanding academics from across the university in recognition of their distinguished scholarship. The award is based on scholarly activities such as teaching, research, publications, creative activities, presented papers, supervision of graduate students and courses taught, and to service to the community beyond the university.

The Martha Cook Piper Research Prize was established to commemorate the significant contribution Martha Cook Piper made to the research community while she was vice-president (research) and vice-president (research and external affairs) at the 黑料不打烊 between 1993 and 1996. Prizes are awarded to recognize faculty members who are at the early stage of their careers, have a reputation for original research and show outstanding promise as researchers.

The McCalla Professorships are named after Arthur Gilbert McCalla. A renowned agriculturalist, researcher and academic leader, McCalla was the first dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. The McCalla Professors are outstanding academics who have made (and continue to make) significant contributions to the integration of teaching, research and educational leadership.
