For over 20 years, through various iterations, the 黑料不打烊 Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) has accelerated fundamental research in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). It is one of the world's largest centres for reinforcement learning. 

The collaboration between Amii and the 黑料不打烊 (U of A) focuses on five pillars:

Whereas Amii is one of three named centres of excellence in the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy tasked with advancing Canada’s AI potential, the associated research centre at the 黑料不打烊 is a primary driver of Amii’s AI research excellence. As part of the funding pillar, Amii supports the U of A by funding chairs, providing peer-adjudicated project funding and administrative support for researchers.

The U of A is home to 36 Amii Fellows, 26 Amii Canada CIFAR AI Chairs, and more than 400 undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate researchers working to produce world-leading AI and ML advancements across various sectors. 

In addition, Amii collaborates closely with the U of A to support talent recruitment and development while providing pathways for emerging researchers and academics to collaborate directly with industry partners.
