Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a forward-looking comprehensive research university with a global vision and the mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together Chinese culture and western approaches.
The Summer Undergraduate Research Programme (SURP) The Summer Undergraduate Research Programme (SURP) provides an opportunity for undergraduate students from overseas universities to undertake for eight weeks at CUHK during the summer. Students will be actively engaged in research under the supervision of a CUHK faculty member and can earn three credits upon successful completion of the programme.
Note: Final transfer credit approval is at the discretion of the student's home university. Please seek approval for transfer credit from your faculty academic advisors prior to departure.
In addition to the research internship experience, the program provides cultural and social activities. A series of cultural and social activities are organised as part of SURP to enrich the learning experience of the participants. Students can learn about the journey of a researcher through seminars conducted by established academics and entrepreneurs who have translated their innovation into action. They may also join other activities such as city tours, heritage walks, and Chinese cooking classes apart from their research projects. The programme concludes on a high note every year with a poster presentation session where participants will celebrate their achievements during the 8-week programme with their peers, friends and the CUHK community.

Deadline: Closed for Summer 2025. Usually early to mid-February. Students must be nominated by the 黑料不打烊 for this program. Nomination status will be confirmed after the application deadline.

Fees + Costs
Nomination Fee: $250 CAD
- Note: 黑料不打烊 students are considered exchange students
Students are encouraged to apply for funding even if they do not have a confirmed internship to avoid missing important deadlines.
