1. Date and Time: Friday November 3, 2017, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
24 contestants will be pre-selected through the preliminary contest on Oct. 27 (F). The contest hour and the place will be announced.
2. Place: HC L 1
3. Organized by: The Department of the East Asian Studies at the 黑料不打烊, and Consulate General of the Republic of Korean in Vancouver.
4. Deadline for Online Application & Speech Submission: Oct. 24, 2017.

5. Qualifications:
- 17 years of age or older
- Not enrolled in a secondary school at the time of the contest
- Not a native speaker of Korean
- Qualify for one of the contest categories
(1) Novice
- Not have a parent/guardian who is a native speaker of Korean
- Studied Korean language for less than 70 hours or currently taking Korea 101.
(2) Beginner
- Not have a parent/guardian who is a native speaker of Korean
- Studied Korean language for less than 210 hours or currently taking Korea 201.
(3) Intermediate
- Not have a parent/guardian who is a native speaker of Korean
- Studied the Korean language for less than 340 hours, or currently taking Korea 301.
(4) Advanced
- Not have a parent/guardian who is a native speaker of Korean
- Studied the Korean language for more than 340 hours or currently taking Korea 401. (No limit on hours of study)
6. Procedures:
- Choose a title of your speech
- Write your own speech
- Submit the application form to the Committee by Oct. 24, 2017.
- Memorize the speech
7. Speech Length:
- Novice: 2 minutes
- Beginner: 3 minutes
- Intermediate: 4 minutes
- Advanced: 5 minutes
8. Judges and Evaluation Criteria:
- Panel of judges is comprised of individuals from the consulate office, U of A Korean Language program, the Korean-Canadian community in Canada.
- Speeches will be assessed according to the criteria of content, grammar, organization, presentation and pronunciation.
9. Certificates and prizes:
- All contestants will be awarded a participation certificate and a souvenir
- Top 3 winners in each category will be awarded prizes (Samsung tablet)
