Certificate in Archaeology

The is a multidisciplinary embedded undergraduate certificate facilitated collaboratively between the Department of History, Classics and Religion and the Department of Anthropology.

Overview

Completing this certificate will offer students the opportunity to engage deeply with classical and global archaeology, as well as develop research skills in archaeology through both coursework and hands-on experience.

Eligibility

This certificate is available to all undergraduate students at the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ who have completed the following prerequisite courses:

  • ANTHR 206: Introduction to Anthropology (3 credits)
  • CLASS 220: Introduction to the Methods and Theory of Classical Archaeology (3 credits)

Requirements

To be awarded the Certificate in Archaeology, students must complete:

  • 3 credits (1 course) selected from:
    • ANTHR 219: World Prehistory
    • ANTHR 256: ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Archaeology
    • CLASS 254: Introduction to Greek Art and Archaeology
    • CLASS 255: Introduction to Roman Art and Archaeology
    • EAS 211: Introduction to Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing
    • EAS 222: Stratigraphy and Sedimentation
  • 3 credits (1 course) of 300-level ANTHR selected from the list of
  • 3 credits (1 course) of 300-level CLASS selected from the list of
  • 3 credits (1 course) of 400-level ANTHR or 400-level CLASS selected from the list of
  • Required Field School (6 credits total):
    • ANTHR 396: Archaeological Field Training (6 credits) or
    • CLASS 475: Field Techniques in Classical Archaeology (3 credits) and
    • CLASS 476: Advanced Field Techniques in Classical Archaeology (3 credits)

Note: Students can complete a maximum of 6 credits in osteology courses and a maximum of 3 credits in earth and atmospheric sciences (EAS).
